The music industry faced a severe reorganization due to digital revolution that has started about 30 years ago. It directly affected the way we consume music. It opened new markets, created new opportunities for new entrants, vanished some companies, merged others and changed the way to monetize music. Now, in 2020 we are in the middle of a pandemic that will pave the way we consume, monetize and interact with the world around us and this will affect artists and the music industry in general. Due to the lost revenue from live concerts, artists and labels are having to find new revenue streams. This new disruption is affecting several business models and many are reinventing themselves to keep afloat. Once again, technology adoption will define which business models will be sufficiently resilient to withstand the effects of the pandemic and which will not. Some new models that recently did not exist like crowdfunding, live streaming platforms, fan subscription and influencer marketing also emerged as a source of income for artists and they seem to be more important than never. Live concert is one of the main sources of revenue to artists and due to COVID-19 they have lost this revenue stream because of lockdowns and cancelations of live performances. Artists are now livestreaming their performances from their homes but are struggling to monetize it. This book intends to give some examples of business models that emerged during this era and some that are becoming more and more relevant.
